“I want to make Limoges bigger”

“I want to make Limoges bigger”

By Aris Barkas/ barkas@eurohoops.net

Panagiotis Giannakis traveled on Monday to France and he was presented by his new team, Limoges. The legendary Greek player and coach together with club president and also former player Frédéric Forte spoke about their common dream, as it was reported by local news outlet “Le populaire“.

“It was a wild dream for us to have a coach like him”, said Forte and Giannakis replied: “You can understand why I am here. We can feel the special atmosphere. When someone has a dream, we must help him come true. Like Greeks who dream big and have made their dreams reality in the past, I have found a president who also dreams big, like me. We found each other. We have passion for this investment and I want to make this dream real. I want to make the club bigger and for that, we will have to work hard. Very hard. We have to put our egos aside for the common team good. Those values should accompany us from the first second of every game until the last. We should not forget that Limoges is one of the most well known teams in France and in Europe. We should have great respect to the club and its fans, we should fight”.

Limoges was one of the important teams when I started following basketball during the 90s. They were a constant participant in important tournaments and always a tough nut to crack. I remember low scoring defensive games and players like Forte, Dacoury, Michael Young, Jim Bilba, Verove etc. I hope they can make a strong comeback and bring some difference and colour into European Basketball and rise to the ranks of Euroleague. (same goes for Pau-Orthez)
