Should Zalgiris be punished and how?

By Eurohoops team/ info@eurohoops.net

Rudy Fernandez was the victim of an attack in Kaunas as he was going to his team bus after Thursday’s game between Zalgiris and Real Madrid, the offender was arrested, Eurolague opened an investigation but the question still remains: What should be the punishment of the club for the incident? According to Euroleague bylaws the expected fine can be somewhere between 30.000 and 280.000 euros.

We want also your opinion, as Real Madrid and well respected players like Sergio Rodriguez, are asking for sanctions against Zalgiris also about the behavior of the club and their fans during the game (video).

How about Rudy being punished for all his years of flopping and pretending to be injured?

What about if you get a hit like Rudy for lying. Hater.

So...acording to you Rudy must apologyze for being attacked by 2 drunk hooligans and threatened by the fans during the whole game. Hahaha amazing...what a fanatic.

If the twins wanted to defend Lithuanian basketball using violence, they got the opposite, just a shame for their country as Jankunas said.

Those twins doesn't represent the Zalgiris fans. I understand the ones whose insulted Rudy during the game because he's a cheater but never the violence and aggressions after a game. It's sport no politics. Jankunas have said that it's a shame for all Lithuania.

I think it is not good to ban 14998 spectators because other 2 did something wrong. It is also not good for Euroleague, as Kaunas arena has biggest attendance among all teams. My opinion is fine, but it must be reasonable, I think about 50.000- 70.000 EUR. Then Žalgiris may get this sum back from security company and these 2 morons.

@vilnius, we don't generalize. But together with those twins, there're banners, everybody singing f*ck you Rudy, and a hip-hop video at the big screen inciting to violence. I'm sorry for all the good Zalgiris fans and supporters but it went too far.

banners are different story and has nothing to do with incident. Banners are part of supporters movement everywhere. That hip hop video is not inciting, it is just funny. Also these 2 idiots are even not ultras as they are called in Spanish press. We dont have real ultras. Because of their hoops mad image they got too much confidence, also were in close relations with some players, and thats why their hooliganism was unexpected, unpredictable. They always were in that place after games, were collecting signatures, just making photos with players. But of course now club must pay the price.

Of course, but depending of the message. About the hip-hop video depending of the meaning of fun, we all not understand others fun, you know...different cultures. Agree with you, also we know they both were drunk in that moment. That confidence was the problem I think. Sadly alcohol+hot atmosphere is not a good mix. Whatever happens I also want to say that I admire so much Lithuania's basketball...Sabonis is a legend in Madrid, Kurtinaitis, now Pocius, Marciulionis, Karnisovas, Jasikevicius. And always having new generations with great players. Regards from Madrid, and really wish that it will never happen again.

1 game at closed door without fans and of course a fine. Zero tolerance against violence.

The incident happened outside the arena, therefore Žalgiris is not responsible for the actions of the fans and should not be punished. Of course, it's disgraceful and shameful to attack Rudy, yet he deserved the punch, big time. Rudy shouldn't have thrown the ball at Kšyštof's head, he shouldn't have spat on Jankūnas and he shouldn't have acted like a scumbag. And I'm not even sorry. And what about a Lithuanian basketball fan Sėkla? He was attacked unprecedentedly by police 6 years ago in Spain. And no one gave a single damn about it. So stop crying for Rudy already. Dude had it coming for playing dirty and being a douche.

It's not right, happened into the parking. Spanish journalist have videos, those twins had access to the place because security ignored them. What? No one deserve a punch for provoking man. I bet that you wouldn't say the same if it was a friend of you the one receiving the punch. It's the mind of a hooligan. Awww no one cries about Rudy, Zalgiris will get a punishment and that's all :) Cheers!

By the way, thanks to the website for asking about opinion, that means you're responsible and sensible about what happened yesterday. It's serious and dangerous.

An assault inside the pavilion is something really serious, where was the security? what could have happened if the aggressor have had a knife? It started from the beginning with the speaker and banners and songs inciting to violence. Rudy payed already for his action and also apologyzed with Jankunas, but an assault is intolerable, typical of hooligans. Firstly I think they should play 1 game in the Zalgirio Arena empty, without spectators and of course a fine.
