After Igokea threatened to leave Adriatic League in case it couldn’t get the right to participate in Euroleague for finishing on top of the regular season standings, Euroleague took action in order to clarify the situation and it did, kind of…
According to this press release the first place in the regular season translates to a B-licence in the 2013-14 Euroleague, if the team in the first position meets all the minimum requirements (arena seated capacity, hotels, international airport). Igokea, leader of ABA League standings at this point, with a gym of 3.050 seats in the city of Aleksadrovac, Bosnia doesn’t meet those criteria. However it is possible, if the team wants to, to use an alternative city/arena in order to be included in Euroleague.
After this season the two teams playing in the Adriatic league final and the loser of the semifinals with the best regular season record will get the tickets to Euroleague. Now, the ball is in Igokea’s court and their reaction should be interesting.
