Iberostar Tenerife got an overtime win 93 – 91 over Barcelona on the road to conclude Liga Endesa Day 11 action. The Canaries jumped to a 6-5 record while Sito Alonso’s men now fell down to 8-3.
Tenerife had a strong start and at the end of the first quarter, they were leading 17 – 25. Barcelona reacted before the break to reduce the difference to just two points (36 – 38). The game remained close until the end.
The key: With the score tied at 77, Kevin Seraphin had the chance to win the game for Barcelona, yet everything was decided in overtime.
Mateusz Ponitka notched 28 points plus 10 boards and Tim Abromaitis had 17 points for the guests.
Juan Carlos Navarro scored 22 points while Rakim Sanders dropped 14 points and grabbed 5 rebounds.
Meanwhile, Estudiantes upset Valencia Basket in Madrid 73 – 71. The hosts got the win thanks to a great fourth quarter (23 – 15). Goran Sutton and Alec Brown scored 15 each for the winners while Tibor Pleiss had a double-double with 21 points and 12 rebounds for Valencia.
Earlier in the day, Real Madrid needed an overtime to defeat Murcia at home. Trey Thompkins dropped two clutch three-pointers for the “Whites”. Also, Unicaja crushed Zaragoza on the road.
Over the weekend, Baskonia defeated Bilbao in coach Pedro Martinez’s 800th game in the Spanish League.
