Pau Gasol confirmed once again that he wants to play with the Spanish national team in the upcoming Eurobasket 2017.
“My desire of playing for the national team is very big and I’ve been proving it for many years, but now I’m trying to be more cerebral at the moment I’m in my career, no more and no less, “said Gasol speaking to ‘El Larguero’ show of Cadena SER.
However, there’s no final decision on the matter “so far” and everything still depends on his NBA season. “The load of games can take a toll on you and taking breaks are more important for me. I hope that with San Antonio we get as far as possible and if that is the case we will finish our season in the middle or at the end of June, so the decision will not be easy,” he added.
So he is more than lucky because coach Gregg Popovich, “knows how to handle well the breaks, which allows the player to recover sooner. There are teams that do not have that privilege and at this point in my career this situation fits me like a glove.”
After all despite being 36 years old, he does not think about the end of his playing days yet. “The mind has a lot to do with that. Now you have to invest more time in the body, rest well, but if your mind is one hundred percent focused, it will help you to prolong your career and if it’s not, your body will suffer.”
