Olympiacos has a special connection in Istanbul since 2012. The trophy won by the Reds, the shot of Giorgos Printezis and the defeat of mighty CSKA Moscow are part of the EuroLeague lore.
That’s why when the team is ready to travel over the Aegean Sea in a Turkish Airlines plane, most of its members can’t but smile.
Olympiacos is facing Anadolu Efes, both teams have already qualified for the playoffs and the most probably scenario for the Greeks is to finish on the third spot, something that may bring them to Istanbul again before the Final Four.
Still, while they have to think about the present, you can’t help but think of the weekend that will decide who will be the new champ. After all, even the hotel is the same. Olympiacos is staying at Polat Renaissance like they did also back in 2012, flying with Turkish Airlines and everything is quite familiar.
Can they do it again? Only time will tell and in less than 50 days we will know.
