The coaching debut of Pablo Prigioni in EuroLeague didn’t go as expected for him and Baskonia.

Baskonia was forced to a subpar performance by Olympiacos and began the EuroLeague with a defeat on the road.

For coach Pablo Prigioni, losing some crucial battles inside the paint, particularly in the board department and failing to maintain an offensive focus, were key factors behind the result.

“We started the game not focused enough to set the tone and control the rhythm of the game. Our second quarter was horrible. We gave up many offensive rebounds. We know they are strong in that area and they dominated. Still, we couldn’t find our rhythm offensively. We tried but we got to be more patient. It is what it is. A tough loss for us because we wanted to open the EuroLeague with a good game. It’s a process for us. We got to be working to get better,” said Prigioni.

When asked about his feelings after his first game in EuroLeague as a head coach, Prigioni said the following:

“Of course, I don’t have good feelings after this loss. I was excited to open the EuroLeague here against a big team like Olympiacos. I thought we had a chance to play better basketball. But you know… I’m thinking more about the team and not about me right now”.
