In Day 11 of the Turkish Airlines EuroLeague, Baskonia got a huge victory over their Spanish rival Unicaja Malaga 88 – 82 in Vitoria.

The hosts got their fifth win of the season while their opponents slipped to a 3-8 record after their fifth consecutive defeat.

Baskonia showed its intentions with an initial 8 – 0 run. Unicaja struggled defensively and the home team found easy drives to the basket during the entire first quarter (27 – 12). With Jeff Brooks, who was doubtful for the game, and Adam Waczynski on the court the guests reduced the deficit to just two points (36 – 34, 39′).

The Basques were leading by five starting the third (41 – 36) but a 0 – 8 run for Unicaja gave them the first advantage of the game. Jayson Granger but Baskonia back in front against his former team at the end of the quarter (59 – 56).

The key: With the game tied at 64 points (34′), Baskonia went into a 7 – 0 in just one minute with Johannes Voigtmann putting on a show. Waczynski tried to push Unicaja, yet he wasn’t enough. Toko Shengelia (12 points and 6 rebounds) played a great last quarter to secure the win for the Vitoria side.

The star: Jannis Timma paced the winners with 5 threes and 24 points. Rodrigue Beaubois also contributed 11 points.

Not enough: Adam Waczynski dropped 7 three-pointers in an incredible performance. The Polish scored 25 points for Unicaja. Nemanja Nedovic added 13 for the guests.
