Unicaja defeated Real Madrid for the first time this season and the home crowd certainly enjoyed it. However, for head coach Joan Plaza, a win is a win, no matter the opponent.

“For some people, I understand that can be beautiful to beat a team like Real Madrid. For me, it doesn’t provoke any particular sense of pleasure but I understand that for many people it’s a great feeling to beat this team, a team that will play the Final Four for sure or even win the EuroLeague. Our objective was just to compete in this game until the very last minute to get the chance to win. We made them take bad shots, we run well, we weren’t cowards in the way we run, we were brave. We also pressured on the offensive rebounds and we got second chances”.

Real Madrid head coach Pablo Laso praised the Malaga fans for their support to their team and discussed the unpredictable character of EuroLeague.

I think today they had their fans behind and they played with a lot of energy. Today we could not impose our pace in the first half and that was the key. The EuroLeague is such a difficult competition and the level so high that there is no easy game. Someone would say: you will win Crvena Zvezda at home. Damn, I lost that game. Olympiacos never loses by 30. Damn, two games in a row“.
