A plan thanks to which the young Turkish players will be more efficiently developed in order to help their country’s national team, was discussed by Hedo Turkoglu.

The former international player is expected to assume presidency of the Turkish Basketball Federation in the upcoming elections (being the sole candidate) and revealed a rather interesting reformation proposal which will throw on the table, regarding the growth of youngsters.

“I plan to meet with all the clubs of the Turkish Basketball Super League and suggest them to choose a pilot-team in the second division where they can transfer their young players. In this way they can get more minutes and bigger roles. I’m absolutely bothered by the fact that these youngsters are currently getting limited minutes on the floor. It’s impossible for them to be quality players in this way, “ he said to Turkish NTVSpor.

Will the clubs agree though? “Our plans can’t materialize just like that. We need support from the clubs. Everyone needs to make sacrifices and put some weight on their shoulders. This is a matter of having to go through a process all together. All the presidents of the club made me aware that they support my presidency. I thank all of them. But we need to have the same approach with all the clubs. No exceptions.”

But how exactly will an increased playing time be guaranteed for them in the Second Division? “I think that having foreign players in this league is an ill-conceived decision for the future of Turkish basketball. So I plan to remove all foreign players from the second division so that the youngsters that play there will spend more minutes on court and have bigger roles in their teams,” Turkoglu explained.
