Belarus got their first victory in the World Cup Qualifiers by beating defending EuroBasket champion Slovenia 93 – 92 in Minsk.

Maksim Salash was the star of the winning squad with a double-double of 20 points and 10 rebounds. From the Slovenian side, Jaka Blazic tied his international career-high 27 points and also posted 6 rebounds plus 5 assists. His team, however, didn’t produce down the stretch.

Slovenia was up 85 – 91 with 3 minutes remaining but Belarus rallied to complete the game with an impressive 8 – 1 run. Klemen Prepelic, Slovenia’s second top scorer with 17 points, had the chance to tie the score with 3 seconds left to play but went 1/2 from the free throw line.

The EuroBasket champs are now 2-2 after this result while Belarus climbed to 1-3 in Group A.
