Now, that’s a compliment to be treasured.

Dirk Nowitzki has received an enormous amount of praise and compliments throughout his highly illustrious career. But perhaps no compliment was like the one given to him by the mother of the late Drazen Petrovic.

Not long after Dirk single-handedly led the German national team to the silver medal in the 2005 EuroBasket and winning tournament MVP honors, he met Biserka who told him that he… reminds him of Drazen himself.

Per BrooklynNets.com:

“She (Biserka Petrovic) said, I remind her of her son. So I gave her a big hug and to this day that’s one of the greatest compliments I’ve ever gotten.”

“Everybody loved him in Europe,” Nowitzki said. “He was an icon and a legend.”

“I remember Drazen as being one of the best European players ever,” he said. “As being a hard, hard worker. I remember him being a big-time shot maker, whether it was a three or off the dribble – he was a competitor, a warrior, a fighter.”

The Nets are paying a special tribute to the legendary Drazen in tonight’s game (26/2) against the Chicago Bulls. Petrovic played for the Nets for three years, from 1990 to 1993 but they were enough for him to leave an “indelible mark on the franchise”, per the club’s description of his influence.
