The last rounds of the Turkish Airlines EuroLeague are turning into a game of musical chairs with five teams really close on the standings and the loser will be out of the playoffs.

By Eurohoops team/ info@eurohoops.net

As you can see in our GameCenter, road wins are not that rare at this point of the season and the situation in the standings is all about the playoffs race.

And that’s why even if by the numbers James Feldeine of Crvena Zvezda will be named MVP by the Turkish Airlines EuroLeague after his career night, our pick comes from Russia.

MVP

Alexey Shved

In a more than crucial road game and despite making just one out of nine threes, he was the most important player on the court with 22 points, 12 assists, five rebounds and three steals. He will never stop shooting, no matter what. On the other hand, he can do many more things and he proved it when Khimki Moscow Region needed it badly. Anthony Gill and his 25 points also deserve a mention, but it was Shved’s night again.

BEST FIVE

  1. Jayson Granger: Baskonia Vitoria Gasteiz is finally among the top eight teams, at least for this week, and he was the main reason for that with 20 points and 5/7 threes, most of them made on crucial points against Zalgiris Kaunas.
  2. Alexey Shved: Khimki’s main man.
  3. KC Rivers: He was the main firepower of Panathinaikos Superfoods in the road win against Unicaja Malaga, scoring 24 points, making six threes – two of them in crunch time – and also adding five steals.
  4. Andrey Vorontsevich: Nando De Colo made the most crucial shot of the night in CSKA Moscow‘s win over Fenerbahce Dogus, but he had a perfect game with 17 points and 6/6 made field goals with five of them being threes.
  5. Ante Tomic: He is back to his old self, leading FC Barcelona Lassa to the road win over Olympiacos by scoring 19 points and grabbing 10 rebounds.

Coach of the week: Svetislav Pesic

He proved against Olympiacos that Barcelona had the talent to do much more this season. It was the biggest road win of the club in Greece even four players missing, among them Adam Hanga, Kevin Seraphin and Rakim Sanders. What happened this season in Barca until his arrival remains a mystery…

Last word: Who will be left out?

Four games are left, Baskonia finally caught up with Maccabi FOX Tel Aviv and at mathematically not even Real Madrid with 16 wins is “safe”. Baskonia is not just a danger for Maccabi, but also for Zalgiris Kaunas which has a really tough schedule coming up and also Khimki and Panathinaikos should not let their guard down. One of those five teams will be left out in the cold after the end of the regular season.
