Welcome to one of the new trademarks columnes of Eurohoops in which we will examine current basketball players under a different view.

Some of the current Euroleague athletes are pretty similar to the recent past greats. That’s why we will put them side to side, the present with the past 2000-2010 decade, or even earlier. Basketball is evolving with great strides in Europe, things change, but some times the feeling of deja vu is more than great.

This comparison will not be limited only to stars, but to players of any kind and role. It’s really strange how things evolve, but some times have the same core. And we believe that this never gets old! You have every right of course, to agree or disagree and we would like to have also your opinion on the matter.

Jamar Smith

Both with Brose Basketa and with Limoges, the 27 years old guard proved that he is a capable and consistent scorer with the outside shot being his strongest point. During Euroleague’s regular season he averaged 13.3 points on 50% on 2p shots, 46,8% in threes and 89% in free throws. He also had 2 rebounds, 1 steal, 2.5 assists and as he getting more experienced, we expect him to get also better. In Eurocup he had 11.3 points and 3 assists on 50% on 2p and 37.5% in threes.

Charles Smith

They have the same surname and almost the same game. The elder Smith was the top Euroleague scorer during the 2004-05 season with Scavolini Pesaro. He had almost the same height with Jamar and he played in total for five seasons in Euroleague with Scavolini, Real, Efes and Roma. In total he had 12.9 points per average, 51% in 2 p. shots, 35,5% in threes and 75% in free throws. He also had 2,6 rebounds, 2 steals and 1.8 assists. His shot was his weapon, he was quite athletic for the time and he was a pure scorer. The numbers speak for themselves and the similatiry is more than great.
