After leading CSKA Moscow through an almost spotless regular season in VTB League, Dimitris Itoudis was recognized as the best coach of the championship in 2016/2017.

The “Army Men” completed the regular season with a nearly impeccable 22-2 record, finishing first in the standings. Meanwhile they were the league leaders on offense with 93.9 points per game and second in defensive effectiveness, receiving 74.3 points in per match.

Itoudis received the award before Game 1 of the semifinals against Lokomotiv Kuban. “I would like to thank the League for the recognition and the award,” said the Greek coach. “This trophy is typically an individual one and it mentions my name. Yet it refers to many names and surnames. The management, Andrey (Vatutin), Natalia (Furaeva) and Andrey (Schepankov), who work with us and invited me here, all my assistants – Andreas (Pistiolis), Darryl (Middleton), Anton (Yudin), Costas (Khatsihristos) , Denis (Godlevsky) and Eugene (Burin) and finally, yet not less importantly, my players without whom all this wouldn’t be possible”.

The CSKA Moscow head coach had also won the award in 2015. Vasily Karasev of Zenit st. Petersburg was last year’s winner.
