The new VTB League season kicked off with nothing less than a blowout, courtesy of Unics Kazan and with Zenit St. Petersburg having the role of the victim.

It’s one of the classic VTB Leagued derbies between two of the championship’s powerhouses. Yet this time, it was something closer to a massacre.

Unics Kazan absolutely pulverized Zenit St. Petersburg 94 – 60 in the opening game of the 2017-2018 season.

Quino Colom (16 points/10 assists) and Stephan Lasme (20 points, 7 rebounds, 5 blocks) scored by themselves and connected with each other beautifully, while Kostas Kaimakoglou added 15 points and Anton Ponkrashov 11 plus 5 assists for the winners.

The only Zenit player scoring in double figures was Drew Gordon who scored 22 and grabbed 10 rebounds. Coach Vasily Karasev’s squad shot the bot terribly (3/23 from the perimeter, 19/60 field goals in total) looked in serious need of chemistry following the many (and serious) changes in the roster that occurred during summer.
