Talk about a big-time reaction, right?

Few days after falling victims to a major upset in the hands of VEF Riga, Khimki Moscow defeated fellow VTB League powerhouse Zenit St. Petersburg 98 – 80 on the road.

Coach Giorgos Bartzokas’ players performed beautiful, team-oriented basketball, something evident by the 30 assists with which they finished the game.

Sergey Monya dished out seven assists, to go along with his eight rebounds and 17 points that added for a team-high 28 PIR. Alexey Shved led Khimki scorers with 20 points while posting 4 assists. Tyler Honeycutt had 12 points, 9 rebounds, and 5 assists.

For Zenit, Sergey Karasev was sizzling with 31 points, Marko Simonovic scored 21, while Scott Reynolds finished with an impressive number of 16 (!) assists, plus 7 rebounds and 6 points. Yet their team’s problems lied on the defensive end and not on making buckets.

In the other VTB games of the Week, CSKA Moscow won the league derby against Lokomotiv Kuban thanks to a superb performance by Will Clyburn.
