As the Serbian federation announced today, a decision was made by its executive committee to present its candidacy in order to host the FIBA World Cup 2023 and also Eurobasket 2021 (despite the fact that in the official announcement of the federation speaks about Eurobasket 2019, in 2019 a FIBA World Cup is scheduled under the new four year cycle of FIBA competitions).

This is the second country of FIBA Europe after Israel which would to host the World Cup of 2023 and also the Serbs will make a proposal to the Slovenian basketball federation in order to co-host Eurobasket 2021 with the group stage divided between the two countries and the final stage being held at Belgrade.

Serbia was the host of the 2005 Eurobasket and with the national team being again part of the World’s elite, it’s the right time for the federation to host a big tournament again.
