The “Gomelsky Cup” trophy goes to the hands of CSKA Moscow

Even though they played without Milos Teodosic, CSKA Moscow didn’t have any problem to not only defeat Maccabi Tel Aviv, but dominate 95 – 73 for the final of “Gomelsky Cup”. CSKA Moscow got off to a fantastic start against Maccabi Tel Aviv and never looked back, to ultimately dominate 95 – 73 for the final of the “Gomelsky Cup”, despite playing without Milos Teodosic.

The Russians were furious in the first quarter, scoring a highly impressive number of 36 (!) points against its opponents’ 18. Even though Maccabi (which has rarely been at full strength in preseason so far) recovered from its ugly opening 10 minutes and latter cut its deficit to 8 points (60 – 52), coach Itoudis’ players  increased the level of their offensive game, increasing their lead once more.

To the surprise of noone, Nando De Colo once again paced CSKA with 19 points, also winning 7 fouls. Vitaly Fridzon and Aaron Jackson also delivered the goods with 15 and 12 points respectively. The American guard undertook much of the team’s playmaking, finishing with 5 assists.

Jeff Ayres made his debut with the Euroleague champs, scoring 3 points and grabbing 2 rebounds in the 5 minutes he stayed on court.

By registering a double-double of 11 points and 10 rebounds, Colton Iverson was the top performer of Maccabi. while Itay Segev added 11 points.
