Unlike Giannis Antetokounmpo and the Bucks, Rudy Gobert enters the fourth and last year of his contract with the Utah Jazz without having signed an extention, despite talks that started during the summer.

“Most important is the season,” Gobert said on Monday to the “Salt Lake Tribube“. “I’m working for the season.” The two sides can finalize a deal until the Oct. 31 deadline. If no agreement can be reached by then, Gobert would become a restricted free agent in July and thus eligible to sign an offer sheet with another team which the Jazz can match and keep.

That’s after all what Gobert wants: “Everybody knows I want to be here. Whether I sign this year or next, I’m focused on the season. It’s not going to change anything. I’ve got some guys to pass me the ball. When we got Boris Diaw, I was pretty excited. I’ve been waiting for a French teammate for a few years. So [I’m] just happy. Especially Boris. He’s a great guy on the court, off the court. If we needed one guy, I would have picked him and we got him.”
