Zalgiris Kaunas said “happy new year” to its fans at home by crushing Nevezis 89 – 62 to keep an almost unspoiled record (16 – 1) in the Lithuanian League and a strong hold at the first place of the standings.

All players from the winning side contributed in scoring, with Renaldas Seibutis dropping 12 points, Brock Motum 11 while Augusto Lima and 18-year-old Isiah Hartenstein added 10 apiece. Lukas Lekavicius also had 9 plus 7 assists.

Vaidotas Voluks (13 points, 5 rebounds) and Paulius Petrilevicius (12 p. 5 r.) were the best that Nevezis had to offer. The team from Kedainiai currently stands at a 5 – 12 record.

The defending champs made their point early in the game with a blast of a first quarter (25 – 10) and then continued playing excellent basketball taking a more than safe lead, 48 – 37 at halftime.

Preserving, or expanding this advantage was not a problem for the remainder of the game that evolved according to the desires of Zalgiris.
