The “new” Adriatic league was presented which after all is not that much different from the previous version. However, the league has now FIBA’s blessings and can continue to exist as an official competition

The “new” Adriatic league was presented which after all is not that much different from the previous version. However, the league has now FIBA’s blessings and can continue to exist as an official competition.

Radovan Lorbek was confirmed to become the league’s Director, Josip Bilic was confirmed to become the league’s Sports Director, while Ales Kamnikar was confirmed to become a commissioner for delegating referees.

As it was announced: “In the 2015/16 season ABA League will have 14 participating clubs. In accordance with the sports criteria, having secured their spots in the league through national championships, four best placed teams from Serbian national championship, three best placed teams from Croatian national championship, two best placed teams from Slovenia national championship and the champions of BiH, FYROM as well as Montenegrin championships in the 2014/15 season will compete in the 2015/16 season.

Union Olimpija will be the 13th participant, while the name of the 14th representative will be known after the qualifying tournament. The right for participation in the qualifying tournament will go to the Fourth placed team of Croatian national championship in 2014/15 season and the second placed teams in the BiH, Macedonian and Montenegrin national championships in 2014/15 season.

The new season will start on 2 October and the regular part will end by 6 March. The Playoffs system will be transformed in comparison with the 2014/15 season. Semi-finals will be played in the best of three format, while the finals will be best of five”.
