Rolando Howell, former South Carolina player, passed away at the age of 34 due to complications from a broken C5 vertebrae.

Howell was paralyzed in an accident in late May and had been recovering at Charlotte. His wife, Reanna, said in an update about three weeks ago that Howell was “giving it all he’s got in rehab”. He had been released from the hospital and was back home in Columbia. However, the player’s health took a turn for the worse this week, although nobody was certain about what happened.

He attented USC and was stunning at the Lower Richland High, scoring 970 points for the Gamecocks, playing alongside his brother, Ivan, and helping USC advance to the 2004 NCAA tournament. Howell didn’t attend the tournament due to a fractured wrist that ended his college career too early. He then took the next step in his career, playing across Europe and Asia.
