Chris Jones couldn’t do it against Real Madrid in the Spanish Cup quarterfinals like he did it vs. Panathinaikos in EuroLeague.

With seven seconds to play and Valencia down 86 – 85 vs. Real, Jones drove to the basket and attempted a tough layup to win the game. He missed, got the ball back but misfired under pressure again as the Blancos became the first team to advance to the semifinals of the Copa del Rey.

Real Madrid led almost for the entire game and was even up by 16 in the first half. With the score 77 – 69, Valencia made a 2-11 run to go up for the first time in the game with 2:11 remaining.

Gabriel Deck, Real’s leading scorer (19 points, plus nine rebounds) scored five straight  to put his team ahead 85 – 81. Jones made the layup for the 86 – 85 with 52 seconds to play and these were the last points made in the game. He finished with 20 points plus five assists.

Mario Hezonja dropped 16 points while Edy Tavares had 11 points, eight rebounds and four steals for Real. Guerschon Yabusele contributed 10 points plus eight boards.

Apart from Jones, Jared Harper scored 16 for Valencia.

On the contrary, in the second game of the day, Unicaja got the upset over Barcelona, eliminating one of the two favorites to win the trophy.
