Liga Endesa, the top domestic league in Europe, presented the new season with representatives from all clubs in Madrid, on the same day that also saw Chus Mateo being introduced as the new coach of the Spanish national team.

And Ricky Rubio, who was present in Madrid as the face of Juventut Badalona, talked about a possible return to the Spanish national team.

Rubio, who returns to action in the Spanish League exactly 20 years after his debut when he was just 14 years and 11 months old, spent last season off the courts, but is not ready to retire yet.

Speaking to the Spanish newspaper “AS”, the former wonder-boy of Spanish basketball, who has announced his NBA retirement, didn’t exclude the possibility of playing in the Spanish national team again.

As he said: “It’s a long way off, and I haven’t thought about it because I don’t know how this season will go. I’ve made plans before without enjoying them, and now I’m involved in a very exciting project. I never close any doors, but we’ll see how the season unfolds”.

This statement comes on the heels of a disappointing Eurobasket campaign with Spain, despite being the defending champion, failing to make it to the Round of 16 and having a roster full of young blood

As Ricky added: “ We had a bit of bad luck at the Eurobasket, but the team battled against Italy and Greece until the very end. It was a great performance, even though the results didn’t match it. Chus Mateo is now the national team coach, a very experienced coach who knows the national team from the inside out. And with Madrid, he’s gained even more experience. It’s an exciting time, with a renewal of generations”.
