Spanish League to reduce teams to 16

The General Assembly of the ACB (Association of Basketball Clubs), the governing body of the Spanish League, agreed for a transition that will reduce the teams from the current number of 18 to 16.

The path towards achieving that number is as follows:

Two teams will be demoted to Leb Oro (Second Division) at the end of 2017-2018 and one will be promoted making the Liga Endesa teams 17. The same rule will apply in 2018-2019 thus the League clubs will be 16 beginning with the 2019-2020 season.

ACB also agreed to retain the conditions of a minimum budget that each club will have to keep in order to participate in the league and decided that the number will be revisable with each season.
