Copa Del Rey Final referees won’t officiate in next ACB round

The three referees of the controversial Spanish Copa Del Rey Final won’t officiate any ACB league game of the upcoming (2-3 of February) round.

Juan Carlos Garcia Gonzalez, Miguel Ángel Pérez Perez, and Benjamin Jimenez, the Cup’s referees, have all been out of the list of officials for the Round 21 matches. Their exclusion comes less than a week following what was acknowledged by ACB president Antonio Martin and the Association of Spanish Referees as “serious errors” in the Cup Final between Barcelona and Real Madrid.

Real protested that the game was decided against them in a play where Anthony Randolph was wrongfully called with a goaltending violation after collecting a rebound following a 2-point attempt by Ante Tomic. The referees counted the basket after watching the sequence on Instant Replay.

Previously, Randolph had visibly fouled Barcelona forward Chris Singleton while the latter was ready to score in transition.

In the aftermath of the Final, Real asked that the three referees won’t officiate any of its games and also opened the possibility of exiting ACB.
