Enes Kanter’s father Mehmet faces a jail sentence from ten to fifteen years for charges of “being a member of a terrorist organization”, per Milliyet.

The Tekirdag Chief Public Prosecutor’s Office filed an indictment against Kanter senior on the grounds that he’s a member of a terrorist organization of exiled cleric Fethullah Gulen. Gulen, who’s currently living in the USA, has been labeled as a terrorist in Turkey, following the failed coup attempt of 2016.

According to the indictment, Mehmet Kanter was contacted by 127 suspects of being members of Gulen’s organization.

Enes Kanter, who has been a vocal supporter of Gulen, commented that “this is the government’s way of attacking him for being critical of the country’s current leadership,” to Bleacher Report, regarding the charges against his father.
