Group D: Belgium in Lille, Ukraine out

Belgium proved in the second half that it was the better team, getting the win over Belgium (79-71) and sealing the ticket for the second face and Lille.

Despite a 39-24 start for Ukraine, Belgium with a 10-0 run in just one minute cut the half time lead at four (39-34) and then with a 24-15 partial score in the third quarter got the game under control and led even by double digits (70-56) in the 33rd minute. Ukraine didn’t give up and made it a four points game (74-70) with two minutes left, but couldn’t get any closer.

Matt Lojeski was crucial for Belgium with 8 points, 3 rebounds and 4 assists, while Sam Van Rossom had 14 points and 6 assists and Pierre Gillet was the top scorer with 15 points. From the losing side Kyrilo Fesenko had a double double (20 p., 10 r.), but couldn’t alter the faith of his team, which lost the chance to qualify.
