Giannis Antetokounmpo may be making his return to the Greek national team in the 2022 EuroBasket.

“Taking it day by day. But I can’t wait,” Antetokounmpo wrote to retweet a tweet by FIBA previewing the next EuroBasket tournament, 365 days before the launch of the competition. FIBA’s tweet included a photo of Giannis together with fellow European superstars Bogdan Bogdanovic (Serbia), Luka Doncic (Slovenia) plus Rudy Gobert (France) and the caption “So close you can almost hear it.”

After participating in the 2019 FIBA World Cup, Giannis didn’t manage to make the 2021 Olympic Qualifying Tournament of Victoria since he (along with brother Thanasis) was busy with the Milwaukee Bucks in the NBA playoffs. He ended up winning the whole thing as Finals MVP to bring Milwaukee their first championship in 50 years.

Giannis’ younger brother Kostas played in this year’s Olympic Qualifiers and may make the squad for the 2022 EuroBasket. That edition of the Greek national team could be featuring three of the Antetokounmpo brothers (Giannis, Thanasis, Kostas) for the first time.

Greece will compete in Group C of the EuroBasket and face co-host Italy, Ukraine, Croatia, Great Britain and Estonia. The top four teams are advancing to the knockout stage.

Since he made his debut with Greece in the 2014 World Cup, Antetokounmpo also played in the 2015 EuroBasket and the 2016 Olympic Qualifiers, apart from the 2019 World Cup.
