Italy wants the pre-olympic tournament

As the Italian newspaper “Gazzetta” revealed, the Italian federation is planning to host one of the three pre-Olympic qualification tournaments that are going to take place next summer, and specifically, from 5 to 10 July.

The president of the basketball federation Gianni Petrucci has already spoken to the president of the Italian National Olympic Committee, Giovanni Malagò, and procedures have begun.

The goal is for the tournament to be held in Turin and the PalaIsozaki arena, an indoor stadium that has hosted other important competitions in the past, such as the Final 8 of the Eurocup and the Italian Cup.

Now, the only hope for our national team to travel to Rio for the Olympic Games is through the participation in a pre-Olympic tournament, a difficult goal, since 6 teams will participate in each of the three and only the first gets the qualification. Read the new system as it was announced in August by the world basketball federation.
