Croatian Basketball Federation president Stojan Vrankovic announced his resignation in the aftermath of the national team’s elimination by Finland in the EuroBasket 2022 Round of 16. This is the third straight EuroBasket tournament that Croatia doesn’t advance to the quarterfinals, despite featuring such players as NBAers Bojan Bogdanovic, Ivica Zubac, Dario Saric, plus EuroLeague star Mario Hezonja.

Vrankovic, who was holding this position since 2016, issued the following statement that was published on the Federation’s website:

“After last night and Croatia’s last match at this year’s European Championship, I have decided to resign from the position of president of the Croatian Basketball Federation, thereby taking responsibility for HKS [Federation].

I am sorry for the fans who provide endless support to the national team, but at the moment I do not find a solution that will improve the situation.

Finally, I want to thank all the players for their participation in the national team and the effort they put in, as well as the coaching staff and the medical team, and I also thank all the HKS employees who have supported me in the last six years.

Stojko Vranković”
