It came down to the wire, but Finland managed to edge out their Scandinavian rivals at the start of EuroBasket 2025.
Led by NBA ace Lauri Markkanen, Lassi Tuovi’s side recorded a narrow 93-90 victory over Sweden.
As expected, the Utah Jazz star carried the winning side with 28 points, while Mikael Jantunen added 12 and captain Sasu Salin chipped in with 11, while Edon Maxhuni contributed 15 points.
Sweden, however, showed they are no pushovers, fighting hard until the very end against the favored Finnish team, as Ludvig Håkanson erupted for 28 points.
Viktor Gaddefors followed with 15, while Melwin Pantzar and Miami Heat prospect Pelle Larsson each contributed 10. Simon Birgander added 12 points with seven rebounds.
