The controversial end of the France-Slovenia game created a lot of backlash for Sylvain Francisco.
The player was defended by his coach, Frederic Fauthoux, who emphasized the importance of goal average in a possible tie in the EuroBasket group standings.
However, Francisco himself admitted to the French media that he should have done at least one thing differently.
Francisco gave his own account about what happened when he shook hands with Doncic, who got the impression that the game was already over despite time on the clock: “I should have told him: ‘No, defend, I’m going to attack.’ Suddenly, I remembered the basket average. I regret shaking his hand too early; that’s what I told him afterward. I accept what happened. We have to move forward now.”
Τhe aftermath of the incident included, among other thing,s racist comments and messages on social media for Francisco, with the French Basketball Federation issuing a press release supporting him.
