After France’s convincing 114–74 win over Iceland in the final round of Group D, with eight players scoring in double digits, head coach Frédéric Fauthoux shared his thoughts on the team’s path forward in the European Championship.

With France poised to finish either first or third in the group, it will face the fourth- or second-placed team from Group C in the Round of 16. Later stages of the knockout phase could see matchups against top teams like Serbia or Germany on the road to the final.

First, we would have to get all the way there. I would like that. I dream of it. For all of us,” Fauthoux said, according to BeBasket.

He acknowledged the unpredictability of the tournament.

We could have said that we wanted to catch Turkey, but when you see their match against Serbia, I don’t know… I think the European Championship is one of the most intense competitions you can play. There are only very strong teams. I can’t answer that question until we’ve faced them. You never know what can happen after a game,” he explained.

Despite the uncertainty, Fauthoux emphasized the excitement of facing elite opponents.

As a competitor, it’s very exciting to face that kind of challenge. We always want to play against the best—and beat the best.”
