Montenegro pick ups win and ticket to Istanbul

Montenegro defeated the Czech Republic 75-88 improving to a 2-2 record and booking their ticket to the next phase for the first time in the country’s history, while the Czech Republic falls to a 1-3 record. Their defense and the impressive start was what gave them the upper hand in the game. The first half ended 34-49 in favor of Montenegro. In the second half, the eventual winners increased their lead even to 23 points (43-66) (6:14, Q3).

The star: The Orlando Magic center, Nikola Vucevic was the man of the match. He scored 17 points and grabbed 14 rebounds as he led Montenegro to their second victory. Nikola Ivanovic was also effective for Montenegro with 17 points. Sead Šehović added 12 points.

The key: Montenegro build a lead from the get go and played tough defense by making the opposition take tough and contested shots. Their accuracy from the three-point line (16/34) also helped them establish a 20-point lead in the third quarter.

Not enough: Tomas Satoransky was effective for the losing side; finished with 13 points and 11 assists. Patrick Auda added 14 points, while Lukas Palyza added 12 points.
