Lithuania clinches top stop by defeating Germany

With first place on the line, and having had little rest both teams fought hard but it was the “Green Machine” that came out on top in the end winning by a final score of 89-72.

Lithuania, will now face the winner of Greece-Poland, a game which will take place in a few hours.

The star: Jonas Valanciunas has dominated this tournament from the start and that is exactly what he did again. He had another double-double with 27 points and 15 rebounds while Donatas Motiejunas added 15 points and 3 boards for the winning side.

The key: Both teams fought hard and neither managed to pull away in the first half. Lithuania had the lead from the start, but Germany remained within striking distance. With 2:40 left in the third quarter Lithuania went on an 8-0 run to stretch their lead to 12 and that pretty much decided the game.

Dennis Schröder continued his impressive performances totalling 26 points and 3 assists but had little support from his teammates.

Germany will now face France in the knock-out round in Istanbul.
