After Τuesday’s quarterfinal game between Slovenia and Latvia, the spotlight’s attention rightfully fell on Luka Doncic and his sensational overall career-high performance.

His father, Sasa Doncic was naturally delighted and proud seeing his son leading Slovenia to the semifinal but not exactly… shocked. “It did not surprise me at all. Luka had a great season with Real Madrid and has come to the EuroBasket with great desire and will to succeed in a very healthy and happy environment. Goran Dragic helps him a lot, as well as coach Igor Kokoskov who is doing a great job,” he said to Mundo Deportivo.

Doncic senior had previously praised his country’s squad for its success of making the best four national teams in Europe. “First of all, I want to say that it was the best game of the tournament. A game which was amazing to watch, especially offensively with unbelievable shooting, rhythm, highlight plays but also passion and nerves between the two teams, ” said Doncic senior. “And a great victory for Slovenia, despite the bad refereeing.”

He continued by commenting on Spain’s game on Thursday. “Spain is better individually and has better players, but Slovenia is better as a team, as a unit. I cannot rule out Slovenia’s victory. Personally, I would like a Slovenia vs. Serbia final, ” he concluded.

Luka’s father seems to really believe in his son and his abilities, but also Slovenia’s National Team, which faces off Spain (Thursday 9.30) in the semi-finals. Slovenia is yet undefeated and with a 7-0 record will try to overcome Spain’s obstacle in tomorrows game and reach the final.
