After its elimination from the ACB playoffs and Joan Penarroya’s two-year agreement with Baskonia, Valencia is looking ahead and wants to bring in a familiar face.

According to reports by apuntmedia.es, Valencia is bringing back head coach Pedro Martinez, who led the team to its sole Liga Endesa title in 2017.

Martinez, who was chosen as the Basketball Champions League Coach of the Year in 2022, spent the previous three seasons with Manresa and paced the club to a historic BCL Final Four participation in Bilbao this past May.

According to the report, Martinez met with Valencia sporting director Chechu Mulero during the ACB quarterfinals series against Real in Madrid, and negotiations between the two sides are “well underway”.

Valencia is expected to announce the departure of Penarroya soon, and proceed with the official announcement of Martinez’s return.
