On Tuesday night, one tourist bus that was coming back to a camping village after a visit to Venice fell down from the Vempa overpass in Mestre, only a few kilometers away from the Palasport Taliercio, where Reyer plays its home games both in the LBA and in the EuroCup.

With almost all passengers coming from Germany and Ukraine, the confirmed victims are at the moment 21, with 15 wounded people. Among these ones, some are in very dangerous conditions, and hospitalized close to the accident area, where the bus caught fire following a sudden illness that affected the 40-year-old driver and the consequential 10-meter fall.

Playing its first official game of the 2023-24 BKT EuroCup Regular Season on the road in Britain, facing the London Lions, Reyer Venice announced the team will play with mourning on the jerseys. “Umana Reyer Venezia is deeply saddened by the terrible tragedy that occurred last night at the Vempa overpass in Mestre. The whole club gathers around family and friends of all victims”, the Italian team stated in an official press release.
