Massimo Cancellieri left PAOK for a return to his home country and Trento.
Per the press release: Dolomiti Energia Trentino announces that, starting next season, Massimo Cancellieri will be the new head coach of the team. Aquila Basket Trento has signed a two-year agreement with the Italian coach, bringing him back to Italy after a series of high-level seasons abroad. Coach Cancellieri is ready to put his experience and enthusiasm at the service of the Trentino project.
Born in Teramo on July 24, 1972, Cancellieri began his coaching career at just 22 years old. After his first experiences as an assistant in Teramo, San Raffaele and Biella, he held roles as head coach in Montecatini, Veroli, and again in Biella. In 2013, he arrived at Olimpia Milano as assistant coach, working with Luca Banchi, Jasmin Repesa, and Simone Pianigiani for a total of six seasons at the highest level.
In 2019, he moved to Ravenna as head coach, leading the team to an exciting season interrupted only by the pandemic. In 2021, he chose to continue his career abroad by accepting the challenge of Limoges CSP, with whom he reached fourth place in the regular season in the French championship (Pro A) and achieved qualification for the Basketball Champions League (BCL), reaching the Top 16 in the following season.
After his adventure in Limoges, in 2023, he remained in France by signing with Strasbourg. Cancellieri also confirmed his role as a protagonist in Alsace: he led the team to the BCL Top 16 and to the French Cup final, beating Mike James’ Monaco in the semifinals.
In the 2023-24 season, he moved to Greece to lead PAOK Thessaloniki, a historic place in European basketball. With the Greek club, he achieved important results: direct qualification for the playoffs of the Greek top league without going through the play-ins, semifinal of the Greek Cup, and, above all, the final of the FIBA Europe Cup.
With his enthusiasm, his preparation, and a wealth of international experience, Massimo Cancellieri is ready to begin a new stimulating adventure at the helm of Dolomiti Energia Trentino.
