Following eight NBA games with the Washington Wizards and starting the 2025-26 season in Basketball Champions League Season X, powered by Ameresco SUNEL, with Filou Oostende, Jordan Schakel moved to Niners Chemnitz on a contract for the remainder of the 2025-26 season.

The deal was announced by the German BKT EuroCup participant on Saturday.

Originally from California, 27-year-old Schakel holds German citizenship, stemming from family ties to the country.

The former San Diego State standout went undrafted in 2021, but made his way to eight appearances in the NBA with the Wizards. In more G League action, he went from the Capital City Go-Go to the Santa Cruz Warriors and the Maine Celtics. Before expanding his career to Europe with Oostende, he landed in Puerto Rico, suiting up for the Ponce Leones in 2024.

This season, Schakel averaged 5.8 points, 1.5 rebounds, 0.5 assists, and 0.3 steals per contest over four BCL games, and 10.0 points, 2.1 rebounds, 0.6 assists, 0.4 steals, and 0.2 blocks per BNXT game over nine appearances.

“Jordan’s shooting ability is well-known. But we’ll also be working with him on all other aspects of his game so that, after a bit of an adjustment period, he can hopefully help us in many ways,” stressed longtime head coach Rodrigo Pastore, welcoming the latest addition to his roster.

Resuming the continental campaign on Tuesday, the Niners host Besiktas GAIN in Messe Chemnitz, looking to build on a current 5-6 tally in Group B of the Regular Season. Pastore’s side is tied with two more teams at the bottom end of the Eighthfinals zone, three games away from a direct ticket to the Quarterfinals.

Schakel was available but fell shy of his debut in Round 11 of Germany’s easyCredit BBL Regular Season opposite the Rostock Seawolves in Chemnitz, with a home win eventually improving the domestic record to 5-6.
