Brazilian football icon Ronaldinho could be preparing to enter professional basketball as an investor in AS Monaco Basket.
The former Barcelona and Brazil star has officially joined the race to take over the Monegasque club with the backing of Andorran investment fund Clayton Sport, according to L’Équipe.
Monaco executive director Oleksiy Yefimov reportedly received a letter of intent outlining a potential investment project involving the 2005 Ballon d’Or winner.
The proposal includes repaying €2.5 million in EuroLeague debt, providing a €5 million bank guarantee and investing approximately €10 million per season over a period of three to five years. Ronaldinho could also invest his own money and take an active role in the project.
His approach arrived shortly after Monaco publicly expressed confidence in its takeover negotiations with former NBA All-Star Jamal Mashburn and his consortium, Helen Holdings.
Mashburn’s group remains in discussions with the club, leaving Monaco with two potential ownership projects as it attempts to secure its financial future and regain admission to France’s Betclic Elite.
The FFBB Appeals Chamber recently upheld the decision to exclude Monaco from the 2026-27 domestic season. The club plans to take its case to the CNOSF and has until August 18 to submit the grounds for its conciliation request.
Ronaldinho’s unexpected entry could now reshape negotiations at a decisive moment for the Roca Team.
