AEK flirts with Eurocup having the expansion on the back of its mind

The Greek club took part in Eurocup’s draw last season, but left for the Basketball Champions League. Like it already happened in France, Turkey and Italy, AEK which is not satisfied with the competition of FIBA, is more than open to a return to Eurocup.

The fact remains that an expansion of EuroLeague is on the table, even if for this to happen it should also make sense business-wise and also there will be issues with the calendar of the competion specially if we go from 16 to 20 teams.  The national teams windows will be added from next season and the schedule will be even more tight for top players.

Tony Parker also mentioned that for him and ASVEL the ultimate goal is to represent France in the EuroLeague and the general idea behind an expansion will also be to have more spots allocated via the Eurocup. Still this plan has to do more with the future. For the present, the point is that Greece is also near a Eurocup return after a season of absence.
