Timofey Mozgov has yet to make his season debut with Khimki Moscow and this delay is reportedly what keeps him from getting paid.

According to RIA Novosti, the one-year contract between Khimki and Mozgov will be fully activated only once the player actually steps on the court with the team. Until then, the Russian former NBA champion won’t receive any form of salary.

In response to the report, Khimki general manager Pavel Astakhov commented to RIA Novosti that: “We immediately said it was contracted on mutual terms. Any details of the agreement are a trade secret, it will be incorrect to disclose them.”

Mozgov, 32 signed a one-year contract with Khimki Moscow in July to return to Europe following a nine-year stint in the NBA. He played 494 games in the league with the New York Knicks, Denver Nuggets, Cleveland Cavaliers (with which he won the championship in 2016), Los Angeles Lakers and the Brooklyn Nets before undergoing knee surgery in January 2019 while with the Orlando Magic.

“The situation with Timofey is still not clear, we’re waiting for him to enter the court. But no one knows when will this happen. When the doctors say that he can play and practice, then he will do so. If not, then no,” Astakhov also stated.
