Barcelona guard Thomas Heurtel was planning his return to action when EuroLeague and the Spanish ACB League were suspended due to the coronavirus pandemic.

Four weeks after his season debut and the comeback from knee surgery that kept him out for five months, Heurtel suffered an ankle sprain. He has now recovered but the season is shut down.

“It’s frustrating to not be able to play again now,” Heurtel said in an interview for Barcelona’s website. “This season was difficult for me and I was ready to return to the team the week the emergency was declared. The situation is what it is and we have to stay home. We will have time to enjoy basketball again.”

“Physically, I feel perfect,” Heurtel said on his recovery. “I’m ready to compete but we are in this bad situation. But I feel good physically and mentally and I hope that for all the fans as well.”

“I want to say to the people of Palau that I’ve never wanted to play basketball so much. I’m ready to be with the team and compete again,” Heurtel also mentioned.

Like his teammate Ante Tomic, Heurtel has the opportunity to spend more time with his family. “Every day I exercise in the gym and then I try to enjoy my family, my son. Because during the season we are either in the arenas or traveling. That’s the positive: To be able to see my son grow and be with my family.”
