Tony Parker on becoming Lyon president: It’s something you can’t refuse

Tony Parker admits that the prospect of becoming the next president of the French soccer club Olympique Lyonnais is something that he finds rather appealing.

How appealing? Enough for the four-time NBA champion to not be able to turn down such an offer.

“For me, it’s an honor to be considered as such and that (current Lyon president) Jean-Michel [Aulas] things of me for this position. Of course, I realize what it involves and the work behind it. I know I have a lot to learn. But if one day he asks me to take over, it’s something you can’t refuse,” Parker said in an interview with So Foot.

Aulas had mentioned that Parker could be the one to succeed him at the helm of Lyon in 2023 when he plans to retire. “He has the profile to run a professional global sports operation,” Aulas said to L’Equipe.

Parker has been the owner/president of ASVEL Villeurbanne since 2014. Under his presidency, the club returned to EuroLeague in 2019 for the first time since 2010.
