Bogdanovic: I told Kokoskov that Fenerbahce may be a unique life opportunity

Igor Kokoskov will be taking over Fenerbahce Beko after finishing the 2019-2020 NBA season in Orlando with the Sacramento Kings. He will be coaching in EuroLeague for the first time in his career and doing it at the helm of the Turkish contender will be something rather special, as Bogdan Bogdanovic said to him.

“It happened spontaneously and quickly. That’s why it’s great. I told him it may be a unique opportunity in life,” Bogdanovic said in a video interview with Serbian media, per Sporski Zurnal. “Every assistant coach wants to be head coach and Igor is a head coach, we all know that. I’m glad they invited him, that means they appreciated him.”

Bogdanovic spent three years with Fenerbahce before signing with the Sacramento Kings in 2017. In his last season with the Turkish club, he pushed them towards winning their first EuroLeague title while earning a spot in the All-EuroLeague First Team, under Zeljko Obradovic.

With Obradovic now gone from Fener, Bogdanovic believes that Kokoskov was an ideal choice of a successor.

“Zeljko Obradovic left a mark, he wrote history. They chose the right coach [to replace him]. I advised him [Kokoskov] what I really think, that he has the quality to make them an extremely good team. He’s hungry for success because leading such a championship team that invests money is a huge advantage. It’s difficult to come after Zeljko, everyone knows that. But, Igor signed a contract for three years, which is a good decision by the club to give him security, to make him feel comfortable.”
