Kyle Kuric: The tumor taught me how to face challenges with the right mentality

Barcelona guard Kyle Kuric said that his battle with a brain tumor and surviving the whole ordeal provided him with lessons on how to approach and handle other challenges that may appear in his life.

“It was a serious and delicate situation, much harder than I thought, but I had the support of my people and that allowed me to go ahead and return to playing,” Kuric said in an interview with ara.cat. “I guess I came back stronger from the experience. The tumor taught me how to be strong mentally and to face new challenges with the right mentality.”

It was nearly five years ago in November 2015, when Kuric was diagnosed with meningioma, a form of benign brain tumor. He had to undergo multiple serious surgeries, first to remove the actual tumor and then to treat swelling on his brain.

Not only did Kuric successfully recover but fully returned to action some months afterward and has been playing at the top level ever since. He’s currently in his third season with Barcelona, one that began under new head coach Sarunas Jasikevicius and, as always, with high ambitions.

“We have a lot of aspirations this season,” Kuric said. “I won’t say we’re going to win the Euroleague, but we do have options to fight for it. If we play as a team and stay healthy, we will be one of the title contenders.”
