FC Bayern Munich prevailed over Olympiacos at home with a 74-68 victory in Round 5 of Turkish Airlines EuroLeague to improve to a 4-1 record on top of the standings along with Zalgiris Kaunas. This marks their fourth consecutive win in the competition, a first in the club’s history.

Wade Baldwin led all Bayern scorers against his former team with 18 points, two rebounds, and two assists. Vladimir Lucic followed with 16 points, four rebounds, and three assists, while Nihad Djedovic and Jalen Reynolds tapped 10 points apiece for Andrea Trinchieri’s squad.

After a tight contest in the first half that ended with a 39-34 advantage for the German side, Bayern extended its streak in the third period to lead the game with a slight advantage of 61-53 after 30 minutes. Baldwin made it a 10-point game for the hosts early in the fourth period (65-55), while Olympiacos’ comeback in crunch time wouldn’t be enough to seal the final victory.

“It was a game that was decided in the final possessions. We knew that they were going to play like that and make us play this kind of game. I’m very happy for my players because we didn’t play the game that we would have liked to have played but we adjusted and we played solid defense in the second half. We moved the ball better in the first half, but in these kinds of games you cannot be perfect. The only thing that counts is the W. Don’t wake me up”, said coach Trinchieri after the victory.

Kostas Papanikolaou was the leading scorer for the visiting side with 13 points, Charles Jenkins added 12 points, as Shaquielle McKissic had 11 points for Giorgos Bartzokas’ squad that suffered its second defeat in five games.
